Our secretary John, vice-secretary Leanne and Jade collected our energy flag at the recent awards ceremony in Athlone. Everyone was so thrilled when we brought it back to the school. Next up is our 'water' flag!

Energy Day of Action 2015
On Thursday 26th March we held our Green Schools 'Day of Action' . This involved us going without electricity for the day! That included heat! Fortunately we dressed in warm clothes and it wasn't as cold as we expected. It was interesting to experience life without electricity and made us realise just how much we depend on it. We also played 'The Guzzler's Energy Game' which was fun.
The following is a list of the things we found to be most challenging:
I couldn't cook my toast for lunch.
It was cold with no electricity (our heating runs on electricity)
We couldn't heat the water to make the paper mache, and it was lumpier
We couldn't use the lights
We couldn't use our computers
No cups of tea (for the staff)
However we also found some advantages!
no homework as we had no computer
playing on the bicycles (We walked/cycled to school to reduce our non-renewable energy consumption)
our bills might go down.
We also took part in our annual Spring Clean. Together with members of the community we cleaned up around the school and surrounding area. We found loads of litter on the roads surrounding our school. We wonder who the litter bugs are! We even found a hedgehog! We had a great day and were blessed with the weather.
